Work on the Victoria on the River site, in Hamilton’s central city, begins this week.
The Victoria on the River project will see the transformation of a central city car park into a park-like public space with views across the Waikato River.
Stage One of the project begins on Wednesday, 6 April, with the removal of material from the Victoria Street site. It is expected to take approximately three months, and will mean the car park will be unavailable.
Contractors working on the site will be using a range of heavy machinery and from time to time there will be some temporary road closures at the Victoria Street-Collingwood Street intersection.
The path along the Waikato River, below the site, will also be closed for the duration of the work.
The work on the site will pause over winter, and resume in October, for Stage Two. Stage Two will see the development of the site and creation of links to the river, landscaping and planting.
Victoria on the River is a River Plan and Central City Transformation Plan project.
